Roof water harvesting (RWH) is an option, which has been adopted in many areas of the world where conventional water supply systems have failed to meet the needs of the people. DISHA has installed individual RWH structures and community water bodies' restoration in 11 villages of Bodhgaya block in Gaya district in Bihar in order to catch the rainfall The main objective of rain water harvesting is to fulfil the water requirements at individual and community level throughout the year. Excess water is being recharged into the ground through recharge tube well and well.

 
 

In the recent times drought across Bihar enhanced an already rapid decline in groundwater levels. Since the past five years Gaya district in Bihar has received very little rainfall and drought has been declared in the district.
The most common responses at the village level have involved the deepening of wells, the extension of vertical and horizontal bores and/or the drilling of new bore wells, all in an effort to chase the ever-declining water table
