DISHA has initiated a women’s empowerment project for one year starting from March 2009 with 1150 dalit women members of 106 Self-Help Groups. The women are from ten villages of Bodhgaya block in Gaya district of Bihar. DISHA will build their capacity to participate in the governance process, overcome social exclusion, and provide means to make themselves heard especially by government for realizing their entitlements for an improved quality of life.
Once empowered these women will work towards finding solutions to peace, justice, harmony and development by organizing women in a collective forum for enhancing every day skill of peaceful problem solving and conflict resolution in families, neighborhood and among different social, cultural, religious and ethnic groups within and between societies.
